Senior Linux Cloud Engineer is responsible for the maintaining sophisticated enterprise exploitation environment within a cloud based infrastructure – to include design and scripting. The functional role varies from maintaining the essentials such as operating systems, business applications, security requirements, virtual machines (VMs) – compute & storage, user interfaces, and local and wide area networking interfaces.

Program Description
The primary goal of the contract we support is to migrate and innovate outdated solutions with a "cloud-first" mindset.
You will work with a team of talented architects, solution providers, engineers and project managers who's daily role is to maintain the integrity and performance of the client's Data Center for both business and mission components while adhering to the operational tempo and security posture the agency requires.  The team concentrates on a mixture of technologies to advance the mission including but not limited to: VMWare, AWS, Dev Ops, various Linux based & Windows based Systems, Cisco Technology, Fiber based solutions, & high end Storage Systems.
In addition, this role performs an integral part in concert with the customer as an representative for the on-site cloud expertise and knowledge center. The cloud knowledge center provides time-sensitive situational awareness and support to enable a decision-advantage for leadership and Mission partners on critical systems failures. This enables the customer to maintain a continuous operational status for critical components within the operational environment. Other skills required, and applicable responsibilities may include but are not limited to:


  • Architect, build, maintain Hadoop, and other cloud infrastructure
  • Apply Configuration Management disciplines to maintain software revisions, security patches, to include hardening and documentation to DoD Standards
  • Develop and direct the development of content for a complex and growing infrastructure – to including use cases for dashboards, active channels, reports, rules, filters, trends, and active lists
  • Provide guidance to security analyst and network engineering staff
  • Working closely with Information Assurance teams to maintain security requirements for operation of customers imagery systems
  • Coordinating and conducting event collection, log management, event management, compliance automation, and identity monitoring activities for the customer's system
  • Perform routine environmental checks and preventative maintenance
  • Maintaining up to date documentation of designs/configurations
  • Create PowerShell and Perl scripts to facilitate automated tasks


  • 10-15 years of related systems engineering experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering (or a related technical discipline)
  • Prefer Master's Degree in Computer Science

Desired Core Skills:

  • Familiarity with Cloud platforms (i.e. AWS, Azure)
  • Advanced knowledge of systems engineering principles, methods, and techniques
  • Experience with Solaris systems engineering
  • Experience with public clouds such as AWS, Google, Rackspace
  • Experience with private clouds such as VMWare, OpenStack
  • Experience with Hadoop
  • Experience as a system architect / administrator / operator
  • Ability to use problem solving techniques such as root cause analysis to resolve issues
  • Knowledge of Cloud technologies, including:
    • Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS)
    • Platform as a Service (PaaS)
    • Software as a Service (SaaS)
  • Knowledge of network technologies:
    • Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS)
    • Routing protocols, forwarding
    • Common infrastructure components / design
      • IPAM / DNS / DHCP
      • Load balancers
      • Firewalls
      • Virtual and Physical
    • Experience with Linux distributions:
      • RedHat
      • Ubuntu
      • CentOS
    • Experience with hypervisors:
      • VMware ESXi
      • Citrix XenServer
      • Microsoft Hyper-VSpecific

Secondary Skills:

  • Professional certification in one or more specific technologies may be required, depending on job assignment
  • Strong background in Unix, Solaris, Linux, or Windows servers
  • Advanced skills in Scripting
