Senior Cloud DevOps Engineer


Capital TechSearch is supporting an Intelligence Community (IC) client in their mission to deliver world-class geospatial intelligence services to policymakers, war-fighters, intelligence professionals and first responders.


The Senior Cloud DevOps Engineer is responsible for building and maintaining sophisticated enterprise exploitation environments within a cloud based infrastructure


Program Description
The primary goal of the contract we support is to migrate and innovate outdated solutions with a "cloud-first" mindset.
You will work with a team of talented architects, solution providers, engineers and project managers who's daily role is to maintain the integrity and performance of the client’s Data Center for both business and mission components while adhering to the operational tempo and security posture the agency requires. The team concentrates on a mixture of technologies to advance the mission including but not limited to: VMWare, AWS, Dev Ops, various Linux based & Windows based Systems, Cisco Technology, Fiber based solutions, & high end Storage Systems.



Your Role


The Senior Cloud DevOps Engineer supports the program’s Cloud Support Services team and the onsite Cloud Knowledge center and is responsible for architecting, building and maintaining sophisticated enterprise environments within a cloud based infrastructure
You will be responsible for providing technical leadership for the migration of an on-premise federal government environment to the cloud. You will assess the needs of each system to judge the appropriate use of cloud technology to maximize security, efficiency, and effectiveness of IT systems.


Duties to include:
Architect, build and maintain cloud infrastructure to support team and customer initiatives
Manage all server monitoring systems and alert functions; respond as primary resource to alerts and communicate issues internally as appropriate
Maintain and improve existing infrastructure
Build out Auto-Scaling
Support New Services
Optimize for Cost Efficiencies
Administer production, staging and development environments
Manage and aggregate server logs and monitor for security and system related incidents
Monitor and analyze system performance, such as server load and resource usage
Maintain and improve existing build and deployment processes utilizing Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) tools and best practices
Apply configuration management disciplines to maintain
Software Revisions
Security Patches
Hardening and Documentation
Enforce best practices for security and reliability, and drive security initiatives, such as:
Access Control
Vulnerability Testing
Work with Authorization and Accreditation (A&A) teams to maintain security requirements for operation of systems
Perform routine equipment checks and preventative maintenance
Maintain up to date documentation of designs/configurations
On-call support may be required



Qualifications
Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related technical discipline
Masters Degree preferred



Desired Core Skills:
Strong experience with Linux distributions such as RedHat, Ubuntu, CentOS
Strong understanding of DevOps and software/application development processes
Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills
Experience as a system architect/administrator/operator in a large scale production environment
Experience with GitLab, Jenkins, Nexus, and other DevOps/Continuous Integration tools
Experience with cloud orchestration tools (i.e. SALT, Chef, Ansible)
Experience with public clouds such as AWS, Google, Rackspace
Knowledge of IAAS, PAAS and/or SAAS cloud technologies.
Knowledge of network technologies, common infrastructure components, load balancers, firewalls, virtual and physical infrastructure design
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Must possess excellent time management skills and the drive to work unsupervised



Preferable Secondary Skills:
Experience with Java and Python web framework
Experience building Amazon EC2 instances and S3 buckets for development, test, and production environments
Experience working closely with software development teams
Understanding of access management and security groups (i.e. LDAP, IAM, S3 bucket, Cloud Trail, SSH, VPN, etc.)
Programming experience with Java; Python and/or Shell scripting
Ability to write and use unit and functional testing
